How to Avoid Pet-Friendly Hotels: A Step-by-Step Guide
Because "pet-friendly" isn't always friendly.
Hotel booking sites make it easy to find a pet-friendly room. They make it much harder to find the opposite — there's no "no pets" filter on Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, or Agoda (see our full breakdown of what those sites actually offer). If you want to know whether pets are allowed at a specific listing, here's how to check it yourself.
1. Read the House Rules or policies section
Most listings publish a House Rules, Policies, or Fine Print section further down the page. Search it (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F) for "pet." Some listings state a clear "pets allowed" or "pets not allowed," while others say nothing about pets at all.
2. Check the amenities checklist
Some sites — Agoda and TripAdvisor in particular — don't publish a stated policy at all, only an amenities checklist. A "pets allowed" entry there means the listing accepts pets; its absence isn't a reliable "no," just missing information.
3. Message the property directly
If nothing on the listing mentions pets one way or the other, and it matters for your trip — allergies, sensitivities, or simple preference — message the property directly before booking. "Not specified" is the honest state of the listing, not a guarantee either way.
4. Or skip the manual check entirely
GoNoGo is a free browser extension for Chrome and Edge that does steps 1–2 automatically. It reads each listing's own pet-policy text and shows you immediately whether pets are allowed, not allowed, or not specified, on Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Agoda, TripAdvisor, Priceline, and Trip.com. On search-results pages, it flags listings it can confirm are pet-friendly with a red warning badge and offers to hide exactly those, leaving non-pet-friendly and unclear listings visible.
Service animals
In many regions, service animals are legally exempt from standard pet policies. GoNoGo
does not attempt to classify or exclude these cases — it simply reflects the general pet
policy stated in the listing.
